MESSAGE OF APPRECIATION

Ms. Marina Tornorsam Vance, USA

Master of Science in Environmental Biology

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the scholarship support during these last two years in my study at Faculty of Science, Mahidol University. In the last two years, this scholarship has supported me to not only acquire a high-quality education but also to develop friendships and connections with individuals from all over the world. My personal experience at Mahidol University centers around my research experience and my work with the Root Lab Thailand. I deeply appreciate the kind support of my lab members and my advisor, Dr. Patompong Johns Saengwilai. I had the benefit from my choice of study that I could spend some of my lab work outside in the greenhouse as well as in the field in support of my lab mates’ projects. In the Root Lab Thailand, we cover a wide range of topics from cereal plants’ root phenotyping to amendment application to improve soil properties in concern of food scarcity. While I spent much of the time in the lab culturing bacteria, mixing hydroponics solutions, and quantifying rice root traits, I collaborated and made connections with my fellow lab members and environmental biology peers.

This opportunity to learn would not have been possible without the funding of this scholarship. Learning within the influence of Thai culture and the generosity of King Rama IX allowed me to consider the implications of my thesis and how study may be best utilized. After completion of this Master’s program, I will pursue a profession in environmental science with the hopes of utilizing my freshly acquired skills and concepts to increase innovation and implementation of science into local, regional, and national policy plans. I hope to use my technical skills and academic background to increase awareness and improve conditions in environmental and public health topics. My greater dream is to attend graduate school in pursuit of a doctorate in environmental health as across-sectionn of multiple disciplines.

Mr. Mohammad Sultonun Arifin Ali Ashar, Indonesia

Master of Science in Microbiology and Immunology

I am Muhammad Sultonun Arifin Ali Ashar from Indonesia. I am a second-year master’s student in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University. Hereby, I would like to thank you for your generosity in funding the MUSC-TU Scholarship for Human Resource Development in Science & Technology in the Remembrance of the Late King Rama IX of Thailand.

I am very honored to be the recipient of this award and study at one of the best campuses in Thailand, Mahidol University for two years (August 2019 – July 2021). This experience would change my life with the many challenges that I have been through. I also found empowering feeling when I was able to overcome it and I had many incredible experiences during my two years in Thailand. During my time at university, I learned a lot of things including soft skills and hard skills, and I was taught by many teachers with incredibly educational backgrounds. I also had many chances to make a lot of relations with new foreign students. I am currently finishing my thesis research and I took the topic of Malaria as my thesis project because Malaria remains a serious worldwide health concern in many tropical and sub-tropical areas, especially developing countries. I hope this contribution will have an impact on eradicating Malaria disease.

In addition, I would like to convey the great dedication of The Late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (King Rama IX) to the development of science and technology which makes me want to do the same thing as he did with science and technology. The Late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej was one of the great nation leaders in the history. One of his contributions in science and technology has greatly helped the lives of Thai people until now. This is an example from him that knowledge in science and technology can be utilized and useful for the wider community. Contributing to a country can also be done with the development of science and technology. A noble contribution to the wider community whose advantages will never be timeless.

Lastly, I hope one day that I will also be able to help struggling students achieve their goals in higher education by assisting them in the same way you are helping me. Thank you for your generously.

Ms. Myat Shwe Yee, Myanmar

Master of Science in Biochemistry

I am writing to express my sincere gratitude to you for making a scholarship under “MUSC-TU Scholarship for Human Resource Development in Science & Technology in the Remembrance of the Late King Rama IX of Thailand”. I was thrilled to have this scholarship, and I deeply appreciate your support.

I have heard that the constant commitment of His Majesty King Rama IX was to improve the quality life of the Thai people, and His Majesty made extraordinary contributions to human development and environmental sustainability. His Majesty’s countless rural development projects improved the lives of millions of people across Thailand as well as benefited neighboring countries. Fortunately, I was awarded the “MUSC-TU Scholarship for Human Resource Development in Science & Technology in the Remembrance of the Late King Rama IX of Thailand”. I was very delighted to learn science at Mahidol University. Currently, I am a final year master’s student in biochemistry and plan to graduate in 2022. The financial assistance provided by this scholarship is a great support to me in paying my educational and living expenses. It lightens my financial burden and also allows me to focus on my study fully. Additionally, I got a lot of skills and experiences relating to science and the culture of Thailand during these years. Importantly, this scholarship inspires me to do a research project that can promote agriculture and health. I expect that my research project will help to find strategies for solving problems in health and agricultural systems. After graduation, I will apply and share this knowledge gained from Mahidol University.

This scholarship made my dreams come true. Moreover, your generosity has inspired me to pursue a master’s degree in science. From this opportunity, I hope that I will be able to help people around the world by applying the science that I have learned from this university. Last but not least, I would like to thank the Thai Union Foundation and Faculty of Science, Mahidol university for your generosity and kind support.

Ms. Naing Win Htut, Myanmar

Master of Science in Biotechnology

First of all, I am writing to thank you for your scholarship supporting from MU-TU Scholarship for Human Development in Science & Technology in the Remembrance of Late King Rama IX of Thailand. I am very happy and appreciative to learn at Mahidol University that I was nominated as the recipient of your scholarship.

Therefore, I have been learning a lot of knowledge at the Department of Biotechnology about Genetics engineering, Molecular Bioscience, Idea, Problem and Solution, Market Validation, and Business Validation. In addition, I studied what is intellectual property management (IPM) to protect inventive ideas (Patent, Trade secret, Copyright, Trademark, and Design) and how to startup our concept to change product until to deliver into the sustainable potential market. It would be tough for me to study that kind of information at Mahidol University if I didn't have the MU-TU scholarship. That is why may I say many thanks again to this scholarship member who is the responsible person for helping me.

On the other hand, the COVID 19 pandemic impacted my previously expected experiment research plan, which is “Effect of monomeric recombinant VP28 against white spot syndrome virus WSSV (on shrimp), Litopenaeus vannamei cellular immunity”. That is why I did not finish my research within the maximum years. So, I will extend my working time to achieve my research objective this coming semester. Consequently, if you can support the scholarship to finish smoothly of my research in the coming semester, I will never forget your kindly understanding of our situation at this time. The MU-TU scholarship is the best financial support for me to pursue my dream of becoming a scientist who will assist in solving the great mysteries of the world.

Mr. Ankur Neog, India

Master of Science in Forensic Science

I hope you find this letter in best of your health. At first, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the supporters for granting me with this scholarship. Without this, it would have been very difficult financially to come to Thailand at the first place and take admission in Mahidol University. The scholarship helped me to lighten the financial burden due to which I am able to focus on accomplishing my goals.

It is my privilege to study at the Faculty of Science, Mahidol University which is well equipped with modern scientific infrastructure and dedicated solely to the development of science and technology. Though everything was going smoothly, I must include that the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic starting from March 2020 in Thailand has affected adversely the study plan. It has mainly delayed the thesis research work due to the frequent lockdown for which I had to extend my study period for another semester apart from the regular two-year program which will also affect me financially now.

Finally, I would like to thank again to all the members from both the Thai Union Foundation and Faculty of Science, Mahidol University for awarding me the “MUSC-TU Scholarship for Human Resource Development in Science & Technology in the Remembrance of the Late King Rama IX of Thailand.” It helped me to fulfill my dream of studying abroad in one of the globally recognized prestigious universities in Thailand.

It goes without saying that I am genuinely grateful to be supported by the MUSC-TU Scholarship for Human Resource Development in Science & Technology in the Remembrance of the Late King Rama IX of Thailand.

It is my aspiration to study Master Degree Program in Materials Science and Engineering in Mahidol University. As an international student from Myanmar, it is difficult to fulfill and pursue my goal. What I would like to add is that your financial support does help me to achieve my higher education goals. Starting from August 2019, I had received the funds for tuition fees and monthly allowance. Therefore, I was able to conduct my studies with no burdens.

Throughout my 2-year experience of studies and researching, I do find myself fascinated by how much our findings can improve the society we have been living in and by how much it helps our lifestyles. Without a doubt, it does broaden my knowledge and widen my perception of how education can impact our lives and it pushes me over the top of my furthest reaches. Clearly, I cannot make it this far without your generous contribution. Unfortunately, although it was planned to finish my research within 2 years of your support, it was delayed due to this time of the pandemic, yet I am making every effort possible to be accomplished.

Being awarded this scholarship not only helped me to concentrate on pursuing my goals but also was a huge motivation to seek the next step of graduate studies for my Ph.D. degree with many thanks to your support. What’s more, it really inspires me to help young learners who can’t afford advanced education. Again, thank you very much for your support.
